Our motto- sapere aude - sums up what we offer in the sixth form: education with added daring to make you the best you can be! Our A level courses are traditional, excellent and, very successfully, add value to your qualifications.
Our results at A level are usually the best or nearly the best for any state school in the region, but our value-added puts our achievements in the top few comprehensive schools nationally. Ofsted said
"In the sixth form standards are well above average. Students make very good progress through years 12 and 13, gaining much higher A level results than would be expected from their GCSE results".
We welcome students from a wide range of schools across the north east, to join the 60% or so of our year eleven students who stay on.
How do we do it?
Our reputation is built on the firm foundations of high quality teaching, careful monitoring of each student's needs and strong pastoral support.
