Durham Johnston will be taking part in this year’s Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children, on Friday 14 December.
Christmas Jumper Day raises money to support Save the Children’s work with the world’s poorest children. From school books and classrooms, to mosquito nets and life-saving vaccines, our festive fundraising will help the children who need it most.
All pupils and teachers are invited to wear a Christmas jumper on Friday 14th December and make a £1 donation to help support Save the Children’s vital work. With the exception of the Christmas jumper, school uniform will be as normal.
It is easy to take part, whether you already own a Christmas jumper or not! Your son/daughter can decorate an everyday jumper with festive decorations, wear a jumper with a Christmas colour theme, or even rescue some of Granny’s homemade knitwear from its exile!
It will be a day of festive cheer and creativity, while making a real difference to the lives of children around the world.
If you would like to find out more about Christmas Jumper Day, please visit Save the Children’s website at: savethechildren.org.uk/jumpers
Yours sincerely
Mrs Walton

Monday 17 September Dalguise Blog (Morning)
Group 1
First activity was the Zipwire. Everyone got three gos (because we were quick!). The bus ride back wasn't as long as the one going there because the traffic was much better. We drew monsters and people on the bus to pass the time. We were given awards on the bus. Jacob got the award for looking most like a young prince Harry, Reece got the base jumping no fear of heights award and the room got the eternal bog of stench award for smelling most like the wet room. It was really fun and we'd recommend it to anyone who likes getting out, jumping and getting wet!
Group 2
We did zipwire in the morning which was great apart from the massive hill we had to run up. When Mr Kennedy went on he almost hit the tyre at the end. Lauren is queen of zipwire as she beat Corrie in the race. The journey seemed a lot shorter on the way back. We got awards. Lauren got the have a go Joe award for participating in everything. Corrie got the top blog award for being the most easily distracted during the blogging time.
Group 3
Morning abseiling was really good. Everyone had a go. Olivia L didn't manage it the first time but had another stab and made it all the way to the top and abseiled down (she even had another go!!!). Rita was the first person to manage to do a 360 turn whilest abseiling! We got our packed lunch and headed for the bus. The journey on the bus was better than the way there because it was non-stop. Mr Bowman and the other group leaders gave everyone an award for an aspect of the weekend. Ellie got the queen of wedgies, Rita was given a reward for reminding everyone she was Portuguese and Olivia F was little Miss Sunshine. Had a brilliant trip and would recommend it to anyone invited for the end of this year!
Group 4
We did abseiling first thing, after half an hour of panic packing and bed stripping. Mr Bowman managed some more back/side smashes! The bus journey was fairly long, we were all so tired so the journey didn't matter. Vicki managed to see the graves' of Beatrix Potter's pets (she was very happy). The weekend was awesome and we'd recommend it to the adventurous in spirit.
Sunday 16 September Dalguise Blog (Afternoon)
Group 1
Soooooo... First we did the giant swing. Jade or Fergus managed to pull the release rope about 3 feet from the start. The instructor had to reset the swing (which was a real faff). Jacob is recovering from a near deaf experience since he was beside Claudia Taylor who screamed so loud in his ear, he feared he'd never hear again. Next we went onto Trapeze. Reece decided to take pictures after seeing the height of this bad boy (eeeeekkkkkkkkk). Jacob stepped up to the mark first to show the girls how it was done. They asked if he wanted to count down, he ignored them and jumped fearlessly after a silent hand count. Jade was brave and had a second go (see picture below). Rachel managed to slip on the top and just missed the ball. Looking forward to tonight, over and out...
Group 2
Sooooo... We headed to trapeze first. As soon as we saw how high it was we gasped and shreaked!!! It was about 50 feet high! We named our leader diddy Dom. Lauren conquered her fear of heights. She managed to hit the ball (so did Jade Holden - see below). When Ellen came down she crashed into the stream (oh how we 'LOLled'). Then we moved onto the giant swing. It was really painful but excellent. Corrie and Lauren had an argument over who would pull the string on the swing. The people below on sensory trail shouted 'Just pull it and get it over with!!!'. Corrie eventually did it. We screamed like there was no tomorrow. We're really looking forward to tonight's disco.
Group 3
Bonjour again! Lunch was fabulous as per usual, and we then set off for our next activity; Jacob's Ladder, with an instructor who was convinced that Olivia F was evil... the highest climbers were Mariana and Zeneshe, with 2 bars from the top, and we want to send out a special message for Jade who managed to get 3 bars from the top, all by herself. After saying goodbye to the instructor, we were off to Sensory Trail. Again, the instructor thought Olivia F was evil, and I, (E) was from the heart of Gloucester and loved counting turnips. Sensory trail was... interesting and good but involved being covered in large amounts of mud. Disco tonight! Adios amigos, see you soon! xxx
Group 4
After lunch we went on the sensory trail. Which was fun, however, Lucinda's constant falling over hampered the group's progress. We played a blindfolded bat and moth game, where people had to shout 'Mooootttttthhhhhhhh' while a blindfolded bat tried to catch them. Next we went onto Jacob's Ladder. Our instructor (Ben) encouraged Lucinda and Vicki to stand on Mr Bowman's head to reach the next beam. Lucinda managed to stand on Mr Bowman's nose, eye socket and cheek bone (missing his head entirely). Oh how we 'LOLled'!
Sunday 16 September Dalguise Blog (Morning)
Group 1
Our first activity was the sensory trail. Jacob fell down the hill and we all banged our heads off several trees. The aim of the activity was to go round an obstacle course blindfolded using our other senses. Abseiling was great. Mr Kennedy was down the wall like a whippet and Jade managed to face-plant it trying to keep up with him. Then we had lunch (pizza and chips? No Sunday lunch in sight). We're going off to pack in preparation for our 11am journey home! Disco tonight - we're going to do the Wasp!
Group 2
This morning we were rudely awoken by splash of water from our dorm buddies. Miss Godfrey was singing the banana song as she put the lights on for us. After that we headed to the abseiling. It was really scary going down. You got black hands from the rope (no rope burns though). On the second go we were encouraged to do tricks on the way down. A few people were able to perform a 360 spin. Mr Bowman however only managed a 180 back smack. The video is very funny (he's ok thanks for asking - since no one asked because they were too busy laughing). Next we went onto the sensory trail. We were blindfolded and Lauren got very mucky as she was too tall for one obstacle and so hand to crawl on her hands and knees through the mud... Uggghhhh... We're looking forward to the giant swing (wedgie alert!) and Trapeze. Tonight were going to the final night disco. Off to pack now...
Group 3
Hello again! After an early start, we went off to breakfast and then to the giant swing! When yesterday we thought we had got the mother-of-all-wedgies at the climbing wall,well....let's just say....wow/ouch. We all had a go and everyone enjoyed it and went to the top, I (R) was very scared and resorted to singing, shouting , and squealing as what can only be described as poking a pig... Everyone LOVED it and even Miss Godfery had a go! All of this resulted in some very entertaning photos! The we did surviver which was very fun and we made the outline of a plane, a shelter, a fire and a toilet out of things in the wood! Will blog again soon! Bye!
Group 4
After being awoken by a singing Miss Godfrey and Mr Bowman with a poor man's rendition of the banana song, we went to survivor. Vicki thought she was in the Hunger Games, so made a spear. The others tried to make their shelter more comfortable. Then we were on the giant swing. It was a lovely Scotish day until Ruth and Lucinda had their go where it promptly decided to rain heavily. We were all in pain afterwards as it gives you a massive wedgie. We had to have extra rations at lunch after pulling up Mr Bowman on the giant swing! Off to pack now, we've got sensory trail and Jacob's Ladder next. Then disco tonight. Mr Bowman, Mr Kennedy and Miss Godfrey have taught us the Wasp dance. We'll practice it tonight!

Saturday 15 September Dalguise Blog (Afternoon)
Group 1
This afternoon we went to Jacob's Ladder. Jacob's team got to the top (see picture below) and poor Reece only got to the 6th bar - "It was really hard!!!". After that we went quad biking and Reece, Fergus, Claudia and Callula crashed into the wall (in exactly the same place!). We ended up breaking through the tyre wall. Reece managed to keep his hand on the throttle while trying to break. The instructor's life was in his own hands!!!
Group 2
This afternoon, when we went quad biking, Lauren managed to crash into the tyre wall. Later on, during Jacob's Ladder, Corrie got all the way to the top (although she was dragged most of the way to the top). We thought we saw a body hanging from the tree beside Jacob's Ladder. It turned out to be a stuffed guy. We've played time bomb and Corrie kept throwing the ball into the water.
Group 3
Good afternoon! (Hello mum, mutti, Mama, Mr Bowman's wife and daughter, Hello Dad, vati, Papa! (and bbz xx)) After a hearty lunch, a quick change into water clothes and a worm competition, we went off to canoeing! It all started with a few friendly splashes, and turned into a fully-fledged water fight, complete with capsizing and lots of dunking; not many people can say that they dunked their head of year! We were all completely soaked by the end, and dripping all over the lodge. XD After canoeing was the climbing wall and even Miss Godfrey had a go, even if she didn't make it to the top. After the mother of all wedgies we had dinner, which was chicken nuggets and chips for most people. Off to evening entertainment now!
Group 4
We did climbing first which was very fun(and confusing) but Ruth still managed to do her legendary screaming! aka. ' the ruth ' We also did canoing today as well which was fun but sadly the sun had gone so we were freezing and Sasha and Chloe managed to capsize more than 3 times! Alice B and Saskia managed to not capsize however I think Mr. Bowman got a lot more dunkings than all of us put together!

Saturday 15 September Dalguise Blog (Morning)
Group 1
Slept reasonably well. This morning we had canoing for the first activite and me and jacob were the first to capsize, it was really fun and loads of poeple capsized it was so funny! At the end of the activity everyone was in the water and having a nice swim. We started spashing each other with paddles and tried to tip each others boats over! Lunch was nice. We have Jacob's Ladder and Quad biking.
Group 2
This morning we awoken by Miss Godfrey at 6.45, but unfortunately Lauren didn't wake up. So we screamed in her face. We had breakfast then went on a mystery activity. It was climbing (see piccie below). Then we went canoeing resulting in 13 very wet people. Erin managed to dunk Mr Bowman under the water! She was very pleased with herself. Corrie and Lauren were feeling left out as everyone else had been capsized so they capsized their own boat! Then everyone attacked Mr Bowman and the party leaders for revenge... Muuhhhhaaaahhhhhaaahhhhh.
Group 3
Hello again! We woke up this morning and had breakfast which was nice since everyone was starving after last night's ambush! Then we had a go at the zip wire! It was AMAZING and AWESOME! Everyone enjoyed it. There were lots of shouts of "Like a Pro/Boss" which you should get used to seeing on this Blog...Then we went on to quad biking. Lets just say that most of us managed to pass the driving test and managed to not lose our driving license! It was very fun and once we had passed our test we had a go by ourselves. If we skided then we got 2 points on our driving license, if we crashed we got 3 points on our license and If we got 10 points all together we lost our licence...We also automatically lost our license if we ran over the instructor.... Next we are going to do canoeing, we will try NOT to let Mr.Bowman soak us!
Bye for now!
Group 4
Hi! Today we did the quad biking which was really awesome and luckily we all passed our driving test... EVEN VICKY! Then we went on the zipwire and had an amazing time! We managed to get three turns each, each time feeling less scared but we had to keep running up the hill. Vicki left her sole at Dalguise, they fell off her old shoes! We have canoeing with Mr Bowman later this afternoon. We are going to soak him!

Friday 14 September Dalguise Blog
Group 1
I managed to cut my finger on a fern during Survivour. We had to build a shelter, a fire, trap and a toilet... We used a tent shaped structure and covered it in a water-proof sheet. The sticks and the notorious ferns were used to cover the structure.
Group 2
We had to build a shelter which was windproof, water-proof and panda-proof. We used sticks to make a tent shape and moss and ferns to fill in the gaps. On the journey we stopped at MaccyDee's and got McFlurries but Corrie dropped hers all over the floor. Ooops. When we past the 'Welcome to Scotland' sign we cheered our little hearts out!
Group 3
Hello 8CW and 8AK from Z,R,E, M and O! The coach journey was long and... interesting at times, but mainly several hours of monotony. Some smart people decided it would be fun to buy extra spicy chicken wings, which had an interesting result, many fanning of mouths and "ouches". After arriving and having a quick look round the rooms we went off to our activities, which, in our case, was the trapeze; which involved climbing up a huge pole (no Russians involved) and jumping off the top, getting the wedgie of a lifetime! Off to evening activities now, more blogging tomorrow! ( as many of you may have noticed this is Ellie's creation..... I wish you luck in reading this as it may take some understanding....)
Group 4
Lucinda had a birthday today. But the cake she brought from home was no where to be found. The first activity was the Trapeze. Everyone had a go, even Mr Bowman! We made up a rap which went 'Seat, ladder, ladder, bucket monkey, climber'. It was very wobbly at the top eeekkkkkkk!!! We had tea and a game of ambush which quickly decended into a water fight. We started out with paper cups, advanced to buckets and eventually Mr Bowman found his retribution with a random hosepipe. There wasn't a dry person in the house!!!
